Animals we like and this planet


Environmental Kuznets Curve shows that the negative impact on environment will rise up as economy and income grows. To the extent that many animals will extinct were not thought. Although the curve is only a theory, in practice, the extent of this problem is way too high.

Animals that humans domesticate are on massive rise as they have market value but those who create less value are in the verge of extinction. The total number of Whales available in our oceans are as follows:

Minke Whales 
Approx: 730,000 + 130,000+ 85,000 + 22,000
Blue Whales = 45,00
Fin Whales = 30,000+10,000
Gray Whales = 22,000
Bowhead = 19,000+ 2000
Humpback Whales = 200,000
Right Whales = 24,000
Bryde’s Whales = 38,000

Pilot Whales = 1370,000

These are approximate figures and can be more or less but the variance is not that much. 

Due to current climate change, sea water pollution and other factors, the number will go down in a faster rate than in the past. 
On the other hand, there are19 Billion chickens worldwide ( https://www.economist.com/blogs/dailychart/2011/07/global-livestock-counts ). According to Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), poultry meat production over the 10 years to 2023 will grow at around 2.3 per cent per year ( http://www.thepoultrysite.com/articles/3230/global-poultry-trends-2014-poultry-set-to-become-no1-meat-in-asia/ )

We humans have created a world how we would like it to have. Although we know that its wrong, our actions are too little, too low and too slow. 

Population Growth in history has been the following = stable at 500 million worldwide until 1750. grew from 1 billion in 1800 to 7 billion in 2015. 16 billion in 2100. Threat is countries stepping down from international contracts regarding climate agreements, stopping whale farming etc. Then it will be too late to apologize. 

HUMAN BEING IS MOTIVATED BY SELF INTEREST. THIS EGO HAS MADE THE END OF THIS WORLD VERY LIKELY AND VERY NEAR.

Some thoughts on Society V

८ कक्षाको करिकुलम हेर्दा त लाग्यो , हरेक नेपाली बिद्यार्थी एकैपटक आइन्सटाईन , सेक्सपियर र मेरी क्युरी हुनुपर्ने हो । संसारमा कहिँ नभएको शीक्षा नीति नेपालमा रैछ । किताबको भारि बर्साएर, टन का टन गृहकार्य दिएर बुद्धि बढ्ने भाको भए नेपालीले हरेक वर्ष ५ ओटा नोबेल पुरस्कार जितथे । लर्निङ्ग प्रोसेस स्लो हुनु पर्छ , धेरै स्ट्रेस भएको अवस्थामा नया कुरा सिक्न सकिन्न, शीक्षा को बेस्ट उपाए मिले सम्म लर्निङ्ग बाइ डुइंग हुनु पर्छ । शीक्षा नीति बनाउने ले लेटेस्ट रिसर्च फाईन्डीङ्ग लाइ इन्टिग्रेट गरेर बनाउनु पर्छ र इन्टर डिसीप्लिनरी टिचिङ्ग लाइ प्राथमिकता दिनु पर्छ । रियल लाइफमा यो बिसय, त्यो बिसय भन्ने हुदैन, धेरै कुरा को मिश्रण हुन्छ , जस्तै डाक्टरले औसधिमा मात्र ध्यान दिने तर रोग को बाताबरणीय, ब्यबहारिक, सामाजिक पक्ष लाइ नकार्ने हो भने कुनै प्रतिफल आउदैन । रियल लाइफ मा सबै कुराको मिश्रण हुन्छ । नीति बनाउनेले येस्मा ध्यान दिए कसो होला ?

टेक्सास को बाढी देखि लिएर सियरा लिओन को पहिरो सम्म लाइ भनेर पैसा माग्ने मगन्त नारायण हरु देखि हैरान भएको अवस्था । सकिन्छ भने आफु सहयोग गर्ने, सकिन्न भने नगर्ने तर एउटा संग मागी मागी अर्कोलाई दिन्छु भन्दै आफु बिचमा बसेर समाजसेवी हुन खोज्ने जमाना गए ।

मान्छेको सफलता कति धन कमायो भन्ने कुरा लाइ मात्र लिएर मुल्यांकन गरिन्छ । कति मान्छे त बाँच्नु को कारणनै पैसा कमाउन हो भन्ने सोचाइ राख्चन । सफलता लाइ मुल्यांकन गर्ने धन (Capital ) धेरै मद्धे एउटा मात्र पक्ष हो । जसरि एउटा बिद्यार्थीले स्कुलको परिक्षामा हिसाब बिसयमा १०० मा १०० ल्याएको छ तर बिज्ञान, सामाजिक शीक्षा, खेलकुद, जनसंख्या , भूगोल, अंग्रेजी मा १० वा २० वा ३० मात्र ल्याएको छ भने उ फेल हुन्छ , तेसरी नै वास्तविक जिबनमा कुनै व्यक्ति लाइ मुल्यांकन गर्दा आर्थिक स्थिति, स्वास्थ को स्थिति , सामाजिक सम्बन्ध, सामान्य ज्ञान, बिसेस ज्ञान, बौद्दिकता, स्वभाव, खुसि यित्यादी कुरा लाइ पनि समेट्नु पर्ने हुन्छ । यी सबै कुराको मिश्रण ले मात्र को कत्तिको सफल वा कसको जिबन सुखी भन्ने मुल्यांकन गर्नु उचित हुन्छ । तेसैले , धन केन्द्रित जिबन लाइ छोडेर Human Capital, Social Capital, Good Health, Inter-personal Skills, Wisdom, General Knowledge, Specialized Knowledge, Emotional Intelligence, Happiness and Satisfaction, Critical Thinking, Good Intentions मा पनि जोड दिनुस , किनकि कुनै एउटा को कमि ले अरु सबै पक्ष लाइ महत्वहीन बनाइदिन सक्छ |

जर्मनीमा स्नातक तहमा अर्थसास्त्र अध्यन गर्ने क्रममा एक जना पाको बिद्यार्थी पनि म संगै पढ्थ्यो । ७ वर्ष अगाडी संगै पढाई सकाएको थियौं, उसले सायद उमेरको कारणले होला , पढाइ सम्बन्धित काम पाएन । लामो समय सम्पर्क बिहिन भैयो र हालसालै फेरी सम्पर्कमा आइयो । बिगत ६ महिना देखि जर्मन कम्पनि Siemens को चीन स्थित कार्यालयमा Finance संग सम्बन्धित काम गर्दो रहेछ र चीन जानु अघि करिब ६ वर्ष सुपरमार्केटमा समान बेच्ने काम गरेछ । जर्मनीमा जर्मन हरुलाई नै बिश्वबिध्यालय जानु भनेको ठुलो कुरा हो । स्कुलको पढाई सकाएका करिब ३५% मान्छे मात्र बिस्वबिध्यालय जाने गरेको statistics ले देखाएको छ | तेसैले प्राय बिस्वबिद्यालय सकाएको मान्छे लाइ उचित काम पाउन तेती मुस्किल हुदैन । तैपनि काम नपाउञ्जेल मेरो कक्षाको साथि सानो काम ठुलो काम नभनिकन ६ वर्ष पसलमा समान बेच्ने काम गर्यो र अन्त्यमा राम्रो काम पायो । 

एक दिन आयरल्याण्ड को कर्क सिटि बाट डब्लिन जाने क्रममा बसको सिटमा संगै बसेको एउटा अति मिलनसार युबक संग परिचय भयो । " लन्डन को एउटा निजि बिद्यालयमा स्कुल बस चलाउने पार्ट टाईम काम गर्छु , खान बस्न पुग्छ , बाकि समय जब सर्च गरिराख्या छु, १ वर्ष भो " भन्यो । कुरा हुदै जादा थाहा भयो , मेकानिकल इन्जीन्यरिंग मा पीएचडी सक्काएको रहेछ । थेसिस, नासा को एउटा सानो प्रोजेक्टमा University of South Carolina मा काम गरेको रहेछ । ' टाइम लाग्छ, काम त पाइन्छ ढिलो चाडो ' भन्यो । आज उसले सायद आफ्नो क्षेत्र को काम पायो वा पाएन होला तर मन मा खुल्दुली भै राख्यो र नेपाल संग दाज्न मन लागि हाल्यो । नेपालमा १० पास गर्न पाको हुदैन , मार्केटिंग म्यानेजर कै जागिर चाहिन्छ , सानो काम हुदैन । निर्माण ब्यबसायी , कामदार पाइएन भनेर गुनासो गरिराख्या हुन्छन, उता नेपाली बेरोजगार भएर बसी राख्या हुन्छन । साबेल चलाउने काम नहुने , मेच मै बस्ने वाला चाहिने । मेच मै बस्ने काम पनि ८-१० हजार आउने नहुने, ५० हजार चाहिने । र एकैचोटी धेरै कमाउने आसमा दलाली , नेतागिरी गर्नेको हाबी छ । यूरोपमा सामाजिक सुरक्षाको सिस्टम राम्रो छ , कसैले पनि भोकै बस्नु पर्दैन, घरबारबिहिन हुनु पर्दैन , तर बेरोजगार व्यक्तिले खान बस्न बाहेक अरु खासै केहि एफोर्ड गर्नै सक्दैन, काम गर्नै पर्छ । जब सम्म काम गर्ने, जस्तो सुकै कामको पनि सम्मान गर्ने , छिटो धनि हुन नखोज्ने मानसिकता को विकास हुदैन, कसैले देस सिंगापुर बनाउछु , झिन्गापुर बनाउछु, स्मार्ट सिटि बनाउछु भन्ने भासन भासनमा मात्र सिमित हुन्छ । मानसिकता परिबर्तन गर्ने सामाजिक क्रान्ति पछि मात्र आर्थिक क्रान्ति सफल हुन्छ । सामाजिक र मानसिक क्रान्ति बिनाको आर्थिक क्रान्ति सम्भब छैन ।

काठमाडौँको मिनभवन स्थिति इपीएस स्कुलमा कक्षा ४ पढ्दा एउटा दिबस सर भन्ने हुनुहुन्थ्यो, सारै कडा । होमक नगरे, हल्ला गरे बाँसको लट्ठीले गुप्ताङ्गमा हिर्काउथे , तेसैले उनको पिरेड सुरु हुनु अघि पायीट भित्र एउटा किताब छिराएर तेस्माथी बस्नु पर्थ्यो । अर्का एक जना कुमार सर , सबैको फेभोरेट किनकि वहाँ सबैलाई माया गर्नुहुन्थ्यो , पिट्नु हुन्न थियो, तेसैले वहाको बिसय पढीरहुँ जस्तो लाग्थ्यो , त्यो पिरेड आइ रहोस जस्तो हुन्थ्यो । तर दिबस सर को चै कहिलेइ नआओस भन्ने हुन्थ्यो ।

नेपाली समाजमा 
परिवारमा पनि तेस्तै हुने गर्छ । कसैको छोरा छोरि बौआमा संग नजिक हुन्छन, र एउटा very co-operative सम्बन्ध कायम हुन्छ तर कसैको डर त्रास को सम्बन्ध हुन्छ, बच्चा हरु बौ आमा संग बोल्नै डराउने । डर त्रासमा हुर्किएका मान्छे पछि जिबनमा सफल भएको प्राय देखिदैन तर सम्बन्ध co-operative हुने हरु प्राय खुसि र सफल हुन्छन । 


नेपालमा हाभी रहेको तर्साएर पढाउने काम गलत हो । आफुलाई डर लाग्ने, आफुलाई मन नपर्ने व्यक्ति बाट केहि पनि सिकिदैन । तेसैले त एउतै कुरा सरले १० चोटी भन्दा बुझेको हुदैन , तेइ कुरा साथिले सिकायो भने एकैचोटी बुझिन्छ । येही त्रास को कारण कयौ नेपाली पढाई प्रति चासो दिदैनन , पढ्न मनपराउदैनन र स्कुल जाने कुरा धेरैलाइ मन पर्दैन । साना बच्चा हरुलाई रुवाउदै स्कुल लागिरहेको द्रिस्य हरेक बिहान ९ बजे धेरै देखिन्छ । दुर्भाग्यबस पढाई प्रतिको घृणा ले तेस व्यक्ति को भबिस्य अन्धकार तिर धकेलिन पुग्छ , र साथ साथै समाज र देशको पनि । उच्च शीक्षा बिना कुनै पनि समाज माथि उठ्न सक्दैन । कुनै पनि बच्चा लाइ उच्च शीक्षा प्रति प्रेरित गर्न पहिला शीक्षा प्रतिको मोह बढाउन सहयोग गर्नु पर्छ र शीक्षा प्रति मोह कुटेर , गालि गरेर , उसको कमजोरी प्रति खिल्ली उडाएर हैन, उसलाई माया गरेर, सानो प्रगतिको पनि प्रसंसा गरेर गर्न सकिन्छ । सबै बच्चा एउतै रफ्तारमा जादैनन् , कोहि छिटो सिक्चन , कोहि ढिलो । ढिलो सिक्ने भन्दैमा कम्जोर भन्ने हैन । Albert Einstein ६ वर्षको हुदा मात्रै राम्रो बोल्न सके । England को एउटा बच्चाको सपना लेखक हुने थियो तर धेरैले उसको लेख मन्पराइदियेनन । एक दिन एकजना ले उसको लेखको प्रसंसा गरिदियो , तेसबाट उत्प्रेरित भै तेस व्यक्तिले झन् मेहेनत गर्न थाल्यो र पछि उ सारा बिस्वले चिन्ने लेखक Charles Dickens भयो । एस्ता भबिस्यका Albert Einstein र Charles Dickens नेपाली समाजमा थुप्रै छन्, तेसैले उनीहरु सफलताको उचाइमा उड्नु आघि नै पखेटा काटिदिने काम नगरौं ।

एक जाना विद्वानले भन्थे, ९९% मानिश लाइ न बिज्ञान संग मतलब छ, न अध्यात्म संग । स्रिफ़ २ ओटा कुरा दिमागमा राखेर हिड्छ, कसरि पैसा कमाउने , कसरि सन्तान लाइ डाडा काँडा ढाक्न लगाउने । अनि येही २ ओटा चिज हासिल गर्न आफ्नो स्वास्थ को ख्याल गर्दैन। राम्रो संग खादैन , समयमा सुत्दैन , ब्यायाम गर्दैन , चिन्ता गर्छ अनि उसलाई रोग लाग्छ । अनि डाडा काँडा ढाके पनि, पैसा कमाए पनि त्यो पैसा फेरी स्वास्थ लाइ सुधार्नमा खर्चनु पर्छ । 
बिज्ञान , अध्यात्म , हेल्थ कन्सियसनेस , नन् भोइलेन्स र दिगो बिकाश को मिश्रण बाट मात्रै एउटा उज्वल भबिस्य को कल्पना गर्न सकिन्छ । कुनै एउटा पक्ष कम्जोर भए तेस्ले अरु सबै खत्तम पारिदिन्छ किनकि यो आँडबिक हतियारको युग हो, याँनथ्राक्स को युग हो , अरु बायोलोजिक उइपन को युग हो , ८ हजार वर्ष लगाएर बनाएको मानब सभ्यता १ मिनेटमा सदा को लागि खत्तम हुन सक्छ । मानिसले चीन को ग्रेट वाल बनाए, अन्तरिक्षमा जाने रकेट बनाए, औसधि पत्ता लागाए , आफै गुड्ने गाडी बनाए , सभ्यताको बिकाश गरे तर साथ साथै आफ्नो अन्त्य पनि आफै डिजाइन गरे । जब एउटा पागलको हातमा केमिकल वा बायोलोजिकल हतियार हुन्छ , १ मिनेटमा सारा बिस्व ध्वस्त हुन्छ । बिस्व राजनीति र बढ्दो कट्टर रास्ट्रबाद को नकारात्मक बिकाशले यो क्षण नजिकिदै गएको छ र एस्लाई रोक्ने तत्व अध्यात्म, बिज्ञान र अन्तरास्ट्रीय मनबताबादी नीति हो ।

भोट माग्न आउने नेता लाइ के प्रस्न गर्ने:
- गरिबी, घरेलु हिम्सा र अन्य सामाजिक समस्याका कारण बर्सेनि ९००० नेपालीले आत्महत्या गर्ने गर्छन । माओबादी युद्धमा १७ हजारको ज्यान गएको थियो, तेती संख्या अहिले हरेक १-२ वर्षमै भैरहेको छ । फरक येत्ति हो, तेतिबेला अरुले मार्लान कि भन्ने डर हुन्थ्यो, अहिले आफुले आफैलाई मार्लान कि भन्ने डर हुन्छ । जहाँ गरिबी छ, त्यहाँ हिम्सा हुन्छ । तेसैले, प्रस्न नम्बर १ - गरिबी निवारण , हिम्सा र सामाजिक समस्या हटाउन के गर्नु हुन्छ ? 

- अरु हजारौ नेपाली हरु चिनी को कारणले मरिरहेका छन् । अहिले नेपालीको प्रमुख मृत्युको कारण चिनीजन्य कुरा धेरै खाएर लाग्ने रोग डाएबिटिस, सुगर यित्यादी बाट हुन्छ । रक्सि, चुरोटमा जस्तै चिनी जन्य कुरामा पनि कर लगाइनु पर्छ । यो एक उहदरण मात्र हो तर जनता को स्वास्थ लाइ सिधै असर पार्ने कुरा हरु जस्तै प्रदुसण, धुलो , फोहोर पानि , फोहोर यित्यादी को व्यवस्थापन गर्ने नीति के छ, के गर्नु हुन्छ ? राजनीतिक परिबर्तन चाहियो भनेर मात्र हुदैन ,परिबर्तन लाइ लागु गर्ने नीति के छन् ? 

- स्वास्थ र सामाजिक समस्या हटाएपछि बल्ल बिकाश हुन सुरु हुन्छ । तेसैले सुरु कसरि गर्नु हुन्छ ? पुंजी को वृद्धि कसरि गर्नु हुन्छ ? पुंजी वृद्धि नभैकन, भएका कलकारखाना बन्द गरेर बृद्ध भत्ता, बेरोजगार भत्ता बाडछु भनेर हुदैन । एकादेशमा एउटा भेडाको हुलमा भेडा कै खाल ओढेर स्याल आएछ र सबै भेडाको अगाडी भासन गरेछ , " मलाइ चुनाबमा भोट देउ, म तिमीहरुलाई जाडोको लागि ओढ्ने दिन्छु " , एउटा भेडा ले अर्को लाइ सोधेछ , " एसले ओढ्ने चै कहाँ बाट ल्याउछ ? " , अर्को भेडाले भनेछ, " हाम्रै छाला काढेर बनाउने हो " । यो २-३ कक्षा को एउटा कथा मात्रै । कोहि नेता ले म स्मार्ट सिटि बनाउछु , म यो बनाउछु उ बनाउछु भन्दा, प्रस्न गर्नुस, तेस्मा लाग्ने पुजी कहाँ बाट ल्याउनु हुन्छ ?

बिस्वका १०० धनि तत्व मद्धे ६९ ओटा कम्पनि हरु छन् भने ३१ ओटा मात्रै मुलुक हरु रहेका छन् । स्विजरल्याण्ड , नर्वे र रसिया भन्दा Apple कम्पनि धनि छ , Samsung दुबाई भन्दा धनि छ , Toyota भारत भन्दा धनि छ । पुंजिबाद को बिरोध जसले जति गरे पनि पुंजी निर्माण , आबिस्कार र बिस्व अर्थतन्त्र धान्ने यिनै कम्पनि हरु हुन् । IBM को Deep Mind, Apple को Face Recognition र Tesla को डाइभर बिना गुड्ने गाडी केहि उदाहारण हुन् । एस्ता ठुला ठुला कम्पनि माथि पुग्नुमा कुनै एउटा व्यक्ति को भन्दा पनि धेरै मान्छेको सामुहिक योगदान हुने गर्छ र तेस्को कारण specialized उच्च शीक्षा हो । आजको जमानामा ९३% जनताले निम्न माध्यमिक स्तरको शीक्षा पाएका छन् भनेर फ़ुर्कियेर हुदैन । रोजगारी , बिसेसग्यता , आविस्कार हासिल गर्न specialized नलेज चाहिन्छ । त्यो बिसेस सिप हासिल गर्न र प्रयोग गर्न उर्बर भुमि बनाइदिने काम नीतिनियम बनाउने व्यक्ति, संस्था र राजनीतिक पार्टी हरुको पहिलो प्राथमिकता हुनु पर्छ । हामि संग सम्भावना मात्र छ भनेर बसेर हुदैन । सम्भावना छ भन्ने तर केहि नगर्नु सुनको कचौरा लिएर ५ पैसा भिख माग्न बस्नु जस्तै हो |

चाहे जो जुनसुकै पार्टीको होस्, भत्क्या पार्टी , चुच्चे पार्टी , फुच्चे पार्टी , आफु नबनी समाज, कम्युनिटी , देश एस्तो बनाउछु उस्तो बनाउछु भन्ने सपना नबाडनुस । आफु कुनै क्षेत्रको बिज्ञ भए मात्र राजनीति गर्न सुहाउछ । खोक्रो दिमाग, खोक्रो रास्ट्रबाद, खोक्रो कसम, खोक्रो सपनाको कुनै महत्व हुदैन । यो बिज्ञान, प्रबिधि , पुंजिबाद, भरचुअल रियालिटी , मेसिन लर्निङ्ग, सस्टेनेबल डेभलपमेन्ट को जमाना हो , ढुसी परेका सिद्दान्त, झुट र भ्रमको हैन । एक मात्र अजेंडा बिकाश हो । बिकाश को निम्ति मेरो केहि सल्लाह सुझाब दिन चाहन्छु , कृपया यी केहि लेख गम्भीरतापूर्ण पढ्नु हुन अनुरोध गर्दछु , तेसो गरे कसो होला ?

बुद्ध नेपालमा जन्म्या भनेर भन्दै हिड्ने तर बुद्ध उपदेश लाइ खुट्टाले कुल्चिदै अरुलाई सामाजिक संजालमा नानाथरि गालि , आरोप लाउदै हिड्ने हनु हरुले कुन नैतिकताले बुद्ध हाम्रो भानिराको? जिबनमा कति ओटा बुद्ध धार्मिकग्रन्थ पढेका छौ ? बुद्ध भनेको के हो थाहा छ ? दलाइ लामा लाइ " आतंकबादी, तँलाई लामा, पश्चिमा एजेन्ट" यित्यादी लेख्दै गालि गर्ने विद्वानले आफुलाई बुद्ध संग जोड्नु पाखण्ड हो । आफु राम्रो बाटो हिड, नसके अरुलाई अपमान नगर

नेपाली मिडियाको काम पनि भ्रम फैलाउने र अरुको नराम्रो लेख्ने बाहेक केहि भएन । जनता नि तेस्तै , जे भने नि पत्याको छ, पछि लाग्या छ, आफै सोचविचार गर्नु छैन । पछि लाग्नै परे पनि राम्रो मान्छे को लाग्नु, रिसी कमला, खगेन्द्र संग्रौलो को पछि लाग्या छ , आलुपांडे कुरा गर्या छ, अनि कसरि हुन्छ ?

औसत मानिस आफुलाई भन्दा अरुलाई राम्रो संग चिन्दछ । अरुको कमजोरी र गल्ति प्रति उसलाई ज्ञान हुन्छ तर आफ्नो कमजोरी वा आफ्नो स्ट्रेन्थ थाहा हुदैन । अरु प्रति येति फोकस हुन्छ कि आफ्नो बारे कहिलेइ सोचेको हुदैन , तेसैले प्राए मान्छे लाइ सोध्नुस , तपाइको इक्षा के हो, जिबनमा के गर्न चाहनु हुन्छ , के कुराले तपाइलाइ लामो समय खुसि बनाउन , धेरै लाइ थाहै हुदैन । तेस्को प्रतिफल , आफुले आफैलाई राम्रो संग नचिन्दा, आफ्नो स्ट्रेन्थ , कमजोरी थाहा नहुदा उ पढाइ, ब्यबसाय , जब् यित्यादी मा असफल भैरहन्छ । एसको मतलब यो हैन कि मानिश जिबनको सबै पक्षमा सफल हुनु पर्छ, तर अरुको गल्ति र कमजोरी केलाएर बस्ने समयमा निस्वार्थ रुपमा आफ्नो कमजोरी सुधार्ने, भबिस्य बारे सोच्ने गरे तेस्को फाइदा उ आफैलाई मात्र हैन, परिवार, समाज , देश र बिस्व लाइ नै हुन्छ ।

चुनाबको मुखमा गफ नै भए पनि नेता हरुले धनिका चिल्ला गाडी कुदाउन येति लेनको बाटो बनाइदिन्छु , उति लेनको बनाइदिन्छु । सिंगापुर, अम्रिका , युरोप बनाइदिन्छु भनिरहदा सिंगापुर र यूरोपका सहरहरु चै कसरि जनतालाइ गाडीको प्रयोग कम गर्न लगाउने, कसरि सार्बजनिक सवारी बढी प्रयोग गर्न उत्प्रेरित गर्ने, साइकल चढ्न प्रेरित गर्ने, साइकल को बाटो बनाउने , Car-free क्षेत्र बढाउने , हरिया पार्क र सोसल रिक्रियेसनल सेन्टर बनाउने भन्ने कुरामा केन्द्रित छन् । डेनमार्क मा ८०% मान्छे हरु साइकल लिएर काममा जाने गर्छन । नेदरल्यांड्स मा मान्छेको र साइकलको जनसंख्या बराबर छ । मर्सिडिज, BMW, Porsche, Audi, Volkswagen जस्ता बिस्वका उत्क्रीस्स्ट कार बनाउने जर्मनीमा पनि ७५% मान्छेले साइकल चलाउछन् , ५०% जनता को सहर वा गाउँ भित्रको प्रमुख सवारी साधन नै साइकल हो ।
नेपालमा चै भारत लाइ गाली गरि गरि भए पनि ल्याएको तेल हालेर गाडी धेरै गुड़ाई बाताबरण प्रदुसित गर्नु लाइनै बिकाश भनिन्छ । साइकल चढदा सानो मान्छे भइन्छ । बरु धुवा धुलो खाने , फोक्सो भित्रै देशको माटो पुर्याएर राष्ट्रबादी बन्ने , तर साइकल नचलाउने ।
आजको स्थितिमा काठमाडौँ उपत्यकामा साइकल चलाउन असम्भब छ, तर अब बन्ने नीति पहिला बायु प्रदुसण कम गरेर जनता लाइ साइकल चढ्न प्रेरित गरि , तेसका लागि लाग्ने पुर्बाधार बनाउनु नै दिगो बिकाश हो | तेस्ले न दिनको ४ घण्टा जाम मा बस्नु पर्छ, न तेल को सर्टेज भो भनेर भारत लाइ गाली गर्नु पर्छ , गाडी किन्ने, पेट्रोल हाल्ने पैसा पनि बच्यो , स्वास्थ लाइ पनि फाइदा , दुइटा हातमा ४ ओटा लड्डु |

केहि सिकौ

सन् १९७३ मा तेल निर्यात गर्ने अरब रास्ट्र हरुले इजरायल लाइ समर्थन गरेको कारण यूरोपियन र अमेरिकी मुलुक हरुमा तेल निर्यात गर्न प्रतिबन्ध लगाए जसलाई १९७३ ओइल क्राइसिस भनेर भनिन्छ । त्यो क्राइसिस केहि समयमा हल गरियो तर तेल निर्यात गर्ने मुलुक हरुमा निर्भर हुनु परेको र निर्भरताले ल्याएको समस्याका कारण तेती बेला तेल बाहेक अरु उर्जा तर्फ़ सोच्न सुरु गरियो । ग्रिन इनर्जी अर्थात् सोलार, बायु इनर्जी र हाइड्रो तर्फ़ व्यापक रुपमा लगानी गरियो, खोज गरियो । त्यो नीतिको कारण आज डेनमार्क जस्तो मुलुक ले ४०% उर्जा Renewable sources बाट उत्पादन गर्छन , बेलायेतले आफ्नो अर्थतन्त्रमा बर्सिक ३० टेरावाट (३ करोड मेगावाट) Green Energy उत्पादन गर्छ । यूरोपियन मुलुक हरुको नीति १००% ग्रिन इनर्जी प्रयोग गर्ने तर्फ़ हो किनकि यो बाताबरणको लागि खराब हुनु को साथ साथै साउदी अरेबिया, रसिया जस्ता तानासाही मुलुक बाट निर्यात गर्नु पर्दा धेरै बिसयमा मन नलागी नलागी पनि political compromise गर्नु पर्ने हुन्छ । 

तर एसको पोइन्ट केहो भने, कुनै पनि क्राइसिस बाट केहि सिक्नु । 
नेपालमा भुइचालो आयो, अब गर्ने गर्ने भनियो तर त्यो टपिक तेसै बिलायो , न केहि सिके, न केहि भयो । नाकाबन्दी भयो, निर्भरता घटाउने भनियो , कसरि गर्ने, के नीति ल्याउने भन्दा भन्दै त्यो पनि बिर्सियो । 

३० लाख नेपालीले रेमिटेन्स पठाउछन् जसमा २-३ लाख कतार मा बस्छन । रेमिटेन्स को ८५% प्रतिसत पैसा खपत मात्र गरिन्छ , उत्पादन मूल्य काममा खर्च गरिन्न, तेस्ले मूल्य वृद्धि गरि रेमिटेन्स नपाउने मान्छे लाइ मारमा पार्नु बाहेक अरु केहि पनि गरेको छैन । तर अहिले कतार लाइ गरिएको नाकाबन्दी पछि त्यहाँ भएका नेपाली हरु मारमा परेका छन् । दसौ हजार बेरोजगार भएका छन् । रेमिटेन्स ८५% खपत मात्र गर्दा अहिले जब त्यो आउन बन्द भयो, त्यो मान्छे स्वत गरिबी को रेखा मुनि खस्छ । तेसैले, यो क्राइसिस बाट केहि सिकौ । बार्षिक ७ अरब डलर रेमिटेन्स बाट सम्भब भएको लगानी वा capital formation मा प्रयोग भए भबिस्य मा जस्तो क्राइसिस भए पनि चिन्ता गर्नु पर्दैन । येस्पाली पनि केहि सिक्दैनन भन्ने थाहा हुदा हुदै पनि हनुमान जी को कृपाले केहि सिकुन भन्ने आसा चै छ ।

The Story of French Football and Ethnic Politics

Since the beginning of Olympic Games in 1904, Sports has been one of the rear occasions when people from different places, countries and continents come together and compete with each other within a set of rules. People of different colours and religions put their faith aside and follow the one universal rule. Sports has united people. Sports has therefore also been a political tool for ideologies. The Nazis used sports to justify their ideologies for example to prove the superiority of a certain race. This was proved to be wrong when for example Jesse Owens, a black athlete representing the United States won 100 meter gold in Berlin Olympics. Sports has united two Koreas when North and South Korea walked under one flag in Sydney Olympics 2000.

Along with country level political issues, sports also mirror societal issues. The French team of France 98 World Cup was represented by the children of Arab and African immigrants along with ethnic french won the world cup shifting a public opinion towards more pro-immigrants. The French society in major cities of Paris, Mersailles, Leon etc suffered from parallel societies where people from different ethnic communities did not go well along. Coloured people with immigrant background felt discriminated in the job market and a research showed that the likelihood to be invited for a job interview was up to six times more likely if the applicant's name is ethnic French. This is unfortunately the same in other European countries with some variances. Hence, the team 'Les Blues' consisting of ethnic French like the goalkeeper Barthez, children of African and Carrebean immigrants like Lilian Thuram and children of Arab Immigrants like Zinedine Zidane were representing the french team. It was a real representation of French society. Immigrants of all groups went to the society carrying French flag regardless of ethnic origin. When Zidane scored, Arabs, Blacks and Whites celebrated. When Barthez stopped the shot, all of them celebrated. Miraculously, France reached the final and was confronting the giant, 4 times world cup winners Brazil, equipped with superstars like Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo and Roberto Carlos. The game was tough. Brazil was sure to win its 5th title and France was thirsty to make history in-front of its 60 million supporters watching the game at home. When Zidane scored twice, it was sure that France will stop the game with that score and will lift the world cup. In the second half, Petit scored the third which absolutely slaughtered the spirit of Brazilians and France indeed lifted the cup. The super screens of Paris were displaying 'Zidane for President'. All of a sudden, Whites, Blacks and Arabs were friends, the night was celebrated lifting the French flag and the whole French society changed the next morning. A son of an Arab Immigrant made France a world champion. That day will never be forgotten. President Jacques Chirac thanked the team which gave every effort to lift the cup. This symbolic victory was a lesson to many multi-ethnic countries that together we can achieve everything. A french team consisting of ethnic French could not have won the World Cup. In another 2 years of 'les bleus', the French became European Champions with almost the same squad that won 2 years ago. Suddenly, they were no more football players rather super stars, who were spending most time for Brands like NIKE and PUMA to Adidas.

Unfortunately, the years ahead, French sports was full of conflicts, scandals and so on which directly had impact on the performance of the team. It was resolved to some extent and finally in 2006, the dream team was called back and France again made to the final in 2006 World Cup in Germany. The final game was turbulent, with lots of cards to both side. The game was a draw and it went to extra time. When people around the world were holding their breaths, Zidane headed Materrazi to the ground as he supposedly insulting him and  was sent off the ground. Some people took this as an insult for the nation because Zidane was in a critical condition of the game and he had to do anything to win, however, others found his action reasonable because insulting other players is against the spirit of the game. The game went to Penalty shootout and Italy won the World Cup. Public Opinion in France was divided, as well as in other parts of the world.

Even though the dream team continued playing in club levels, the national football endured other scandals and conflicts. In South Africa 2010, some players of French team, like Nicolas Anelka left the country and later the team agreed to support him instead of the trainer. Hence, the French performance was again bad. The political parties in France used every opportunity to use this for their political goals. Again, luckily scandals were forgotten, team was managed a new and the team made up to the final in 2016 Euro. Lets hope the french team will get rid of scandals and conflicts in the future.

Similar story can be told about other European countries. Germany, with about 40% of football national players having immigrant background reached the semi final in 2010 and still some of the same players lift the World Cup in 2014, with Miroslav Klose with all time leading goal scorer with 16 goals. It again shows, like in the case of France that together, anything could be achieved. We can see the same in Belgian team with star players with their foreign roots as well as the case with 2016 Euro cup winner Portugal. The only goal scorer 'Eder' ( Ederzito Antonio Macedo Lopes ) is a first generation immigrant from Guinea Bissau with Portuguese passport. His scoring, hence making the country European champion has perhaps shifted the public opinion towards immigrants living in Portugal.


This does not limit to football. Going deeper into other sports and other fields, the list will be longer. What we can learn from these success stories are, if chances are given according to the skills one had, the result will be fruitfull and the society as country as a whole profits from it.

Corporate Wellness Policies To Improve Productivity and Well-Being

In the age of competition, the only way for corporations to survive is by increasing worker productivity through innovation. Workers productivity depends on various factors, most important being the well-being of each individuals. A healthy mind can think creative. However, our society as a whole is struggling to maintain healthy minds as mental health issues are on rise and according to a health research, it is the number one cause of absence at work. The figure is varies by country. For example in Germany, according to the official health statistics, 13 million employees suffer from Burn-out Syndrome, over one fourth of total employees. This is an un-acceptable number which has its root in multiple factors. A study published by Techniker Krankenkasse, a leading health insurance company, every third employee feels that he/she is over-burdened at work, every fourth suffers from stress and hyper-tension to heart attack, the number one reason why people quit working life is due to mental health issues and the total loss for the economy is in average 71 billion Euros annually. This figure is continually increasing. 

This has enormous burden for the society, for the family members of affected population and on the welfare state. In the UK, the labour force survey shows that the issue is equally worse like in Germany. Every year, about 250,000 new cases of mental health problems are registered into NHS directory. Stress was the number one cause of absence among the employees, numbering about 50% of all health problems. In other countries, there is only minor statistical deviation. Hence, it is an important problem whose disease burden is huge. 

The WHO published a landmark study in 2001 highlighting mental health issues with recommendations and action plan. Big companies that could afford such action plans and policies did not wait to enact it because, early you intervene, bigger the savings. Today, this trend is a fashion. With a primary aim to improve wellbeing of employees and to present the company as an attractive work-place for new employees, wellness centers and policies are normal. Even though health recommendations are similar everywhere, like eating healthy, drinking lots of water, physical activities etc, the real challenge lie on implementation and keeping it going. To summarise the package, companies focus on loosing weight, quitting smoking, managing stress, keeping blood pressure, cholesterol level, heart rate and puls at optimal level, encouraging to increase physical activities, mindfulness etc. For that, companies offer free Gym membership or many have gym at workplace as well as place to do yoga, offer healthy foods especially fruits vegetables in the canteen, provide wellness and health coaches etc. 

Classes, seminars etc are offered for those who are new and to update employees and some companies have fitness/wellness challenges, which is a kind of competition that employees can participate in which  is an incentive to keep people going. Moreover, as more and more people use computers at work, ergonomics is gaining importance. For example, ergonomists check the height on the table where computer should lie according to the height of the employees, the level of the chairs is adjusted accordingly, people get coaching from experts about the way we seat and work in order to mitigate the risk of neck and back pain. In addition to it, there are annual health check ups to monitor the risk of any diseases before it even appears. The usual culture is that we go to the doctor when we already have a health issue. However, prevention is important. Health monitoring can detect any possible health issues which will benefit both the employers and employees. Obviously, it cannot forecast the prevalence of any disease but it is still good as prevention is better and cheaper than cure.  

The question is only if such policies are helpful or cost-efficient and what research says. Various surveys conducted in various companies have found out that people who would not have joined the Gym otherwise do so because the option is there at work or that the company provides free membership. The wellness policies of the company has at least taught people what that is even though they do not do it actively and for those who are already in it, they have opportunity to continue it further. It also saves enormous amount of time when people can do it at work or after work instead of having to manage extra time outside work. Gym, wellness and other facilities have improved the atmosphere at work which directly and positively affects the productivity of workers which is good for the company and the society. 


Hence, corporate wellness policy has proven itself to an effective tool in terms of many things. It is obviously a challenge for small firms with limited capital and for small businesses but may be a government action would solve it easily. In the Netherlands, government distributed free gym membership for long term unemployed people who then felt fit and many even returned to work which was a good news for all parties. Other countries and places have similar policies and this is definitely going to gain more importance in the future.

Consequences of Mental Health Problems

Mental Health is the most serious problem today in both developing and developed countries. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), one fourth of the world population suffer from any form of mental health problem some time in life. Currently, about 500 million people are living with it but the actual number of supposed to be much higher as there is no data from low and middle income countries. The WHO also mentions that two thirds of these people do not seek any help. The recent reports published by the WHO and other UN bodies are more than scary. The prevalence is higher than ever and over 40% of countries do not have any Mental Health policies. Policies are very important in this case because otherwise, there will be no direct plans to fight the disease. Hence, the medicine for any form of mental health problems cannot be provided efficiently with the lack of regulations. This puts the patients in a vulnerable condition that they use medicine without the supervision of health professionals causing dire consequences on their health. Mental health is also not fully accepted in a society as a disease that can be treated. Still, the general understanding about Mental Health is that it comes from personal failure in life and the inability of individuals to get life and relationships sorted. This is not that simple as many would like to hear but has both biological as well as environmental/behavioural aspects. Whatever the reason, most issues are treatable. People suffering with Depression, Bi-Polar disorder or Schizophrenia are lead a normal healthy life after a certain timeframe after taking medicines with little external support.

Unfortunately, due to various issues like stigmatization, lack of support from family and friends, due to lack of health infra-structure, this goes untreated causing a far wide consequence than previously known. When we take an example of a person named X, who is a father of 3 children and a wife, suffers with severe depression has wider consequences, not only on him but also on whole family. His direct income from the job will be lost, as a result of which the employer is unable to use his talents and the family will be pushed into poverty. This will affect the tax income of the government when a healthy working age individual is suddenly not able to work. Government will face double pressure as they should bear more costs on social benefit if there is any scheme. The social benefits should be extended to family members as well. When children are involved, their education, foods and other parts of life are directly affected. Looking at non-monetary costs, family members will face difficulties, for example the sadness it creates, the time they spend to support the person suffering with depression, and the cost of his absence for example in family vacation, shopping trips to games and household activities.

Various reports have shown that children from a family where at least a member is suffering with any disease will directly impact their mental health. Cases with a family member suffering with mental Health itself is more harmful for the children as it makes them in-official care taker in the time they could have invested doing creative things. Hence, both short and long term productivity of the one suffering and the family member will be reduced. The same thing can be extended to employees or co-workers directly depending on the person that losing a qualified worker will cost money to the companies to hire and train a new person as well as lost productivity. This is the reason why big companies are investing heavily on workers well-being. Companies like Google and Apple have wellness centers to other facilities that ensure the well-being of workers. There are costs but the costs are lower than the costs if any worker is sick and cannot participate in professional life. In addition to it, another research showed that stress for example either directly cause many disease or worsens over 80% of the diseases. So, even when somebody has totally different health issue, mental well-being can still be important.

The other aspect of mental health problem is more visible and serious one: Violence. Violence is meant by both domestic as well as public. People suffering with Stress are likely to be more violent towards family members according to another research. On the other hand, various issues like School Shooting to Terrorism has its root on mental health problem. The criminals mostly have lonely lives filled with loneliness and depression and they have feelings to cause damage. Violence cause direct losses of properties, infra-structures and cause other legal costs on the state and authorities, indirectly tax payers. The consequences is additional safety measures that is again connected with more money. Costs for security is a deadweight loss. In worst cases, it can also cost the life of other innocents who has nothing to do with this and as the consequences of the first paragraph, it will cause other chain affects.


Hence, mental health deserves attention. Worldwide policy making should follow and especially developing countries should get support. More Psychologists should be trained to support the patients. Society should get more tools to deal with people suffering with it, in school, at home, in public institutions etc. As we live in a globalized world, even a single person suffering will have consequences far strengthening than any time in the past. So, it is the time to put Mental Health on the top list of health agenda.
